Momo ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our app on iOS and Android.

Privacy-First Design

Momo is built with privacy as a core principle. Your data lives on your device by default. Cloud Sync is available as an optional feature — sign in to back up your data to our servers and access it across devices. We don't serve ads or sell your data.

Data Storage

On Your Device

All your data is stored locally on your device by default. This includes:

  • Food entries and meal logs
  • Weight entries and progress
  • Custom foods you create
  • Your preferences and settings

This data:

  • Remains on your device unless you enable Cloud Sync
  • Is protected by your device's security features and passcode
  • Is deleted when you uninstall the app
  • Is included in your device backups (if enabled)

Cloud Sync (Optional)

Cloud Sync is an opt-in feature. When you sign in with Apple or Google, your data is backed up and synced to our secure servers. This enables you to:

  • Access your data across multiple devices
  • Restore your data if you switch phones

When Cloud Sync is enabled, the following is stored on our servers:

  • Food log entries and meal history
  • Weight entries and progress data
  • Custom foods you create
  • Your profile and settings

You can sign out at any time to stop syncing. You may request deletion of your server-side data by contacting us at [email protected].

Voice Data

Momo uses on-device speech recognition to transcribe your voice input. Here's how it works:

  • On-device transcription: Voice-to-text conversion happens locally on your device
  • No audio storage: We do not record, store, or transmit audio recordings
  • Text processing: The transcribed text is sent to our backend API for food identification

Backend API

To identify foods and look up nutritional information, the transcribed text is sent to our backend API. Here's what happens:

  • Text search: Your food description is matched against our food database (USDA + curated sources)
  • Natural language parsing: An AI service extracts food items, quantities, and portions from your description
  • Nutritional lookup: We return calorie, protein, carb, and fat information for matched foods

What We Send to the Backend

  • The transcribed text of your food description
  • For signed-in users: a secure account identifier to associate the request with your account
  • No audio recordings
  • No food log history

Food Search Queries

  • Food queries are processed to return results and are not retained
  • We do not build profiles of what you search for
  • We do not use your data to train AI models

What We Collect

Without an Account

If you use Momo without signing in, no personal information is collected or stored on our servers. All data stays on your device.

With an Account (Cloud Sync)

When you sign in to enable Cloud Sync, we collect:

  • Your name and email address from your Apple or Google account
  • A unique account identifier
  • Your food log, weight entries, custom foods, profile, and settings (as described in Data Storage above)

Analytics (All Users)

We collect anonymous usage events (such as feature interactions and error reports) to help us improve the app. This data contains no food content and no personal identifiers.

Third-Party Services

Momo uses the following third-party services:

  • On-Device Speech Recognition: For voice transcription (subject to Apple's or Google's privacy policy depending on your device)
  • Momo Backend API: Our servers for food database search, natural language parsing, and Cloud Sync
  • AI Processing: For understanding natural language food descriptions (text only, no personal data)
  • Sign In with Apple / Google Sign-In: For authentication when using Cloud Sync (subject to Apple's and Google's privacy policies)
  • RevenueCat: For subscription and purchase management (subject to RevenueCat's privacy policy)
  • TelemetryDeck: For anonymous usage analytics (subject to TelemetryDeck's privacy policy)

We do not use advertising networks or sell your data to third parties.

Children's Privacy

Momo does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from anyone, including children. If you use the app without signing in, all data stays on your device. We recommend parental guidance for users under 13.

Your Rights

If you use the app without signing in, all your data is stored locally on your device under your complete control. You can delete all app data at any time by uninstalling Momo.

If you use Cloud Sync, you may request deletion of your server-side data at any time by contacting us at [email protected].

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.

Compliance

Momo is designed to comply with privacy regulations including GDPR, CCPA, and COPPA. Our local-first architecture minimizes data collection — personal data is only stored on our servers when you choose to enable Cloud Sync.
